Recent Reclaimed Slate Re-Roofing Project | Stockport

Reclaimed Slate Re-Roof in Gatley, Stockport

Reclaimed Slate Re-Roof | Gatley, Stockport
This detached property required a complete strip and re-cover. We carefully selected reclaimed slate to preserve the property's character. Beneath the traditional exterior, we installed a modern breathable membrane and new battens, ensuring this historic home in Stockport is watertight for decades to come.

Tiled Roof Replacement | Poynton

New clay tiled roof replacement in Poynton

Clay Tile Re-Roof | Poynton
We transformed this detached bungalow by replacing the leaking roof with premium Clay Tiles. Unlike concrete, clay retains its rich colour indefinitely and adds instant character to the property. As part of the project, we stripped the old roof back to the rafters and upgraded the insulation, making this single-storey home significantly warmer and more energy-efficient.

Thatch to Modern Tile Conversion | Cheshire

Complete Thatch Removal & Modernization | Adlington, Cheshire East
We modernized this heritage cottage by removing the aging straw thatch—which had become a fire risk and expensive to insure—and replacing it with modern Tiles.

This involved a complete structural overhaul: we installed new rafters to support the heavier tiles, added breathable insulation to meet modern building regulations, and finished with heritage-style leadwork. The result retains the cottage's charm while offering a maintenance-free lifespan of 80+ years.

Do I need Planning Permission to Re-roof?

Permitted Development: In most cases, replacing a roof falls under 'Permitted Development', meaning you do not need planning permission as long as the new material looks similar to the old one.

Building Regulations: While planning might not be needed, Building Regs are mandatory if 25% or more of your roof is replaced. When stripping a roof, we are legally required to upgrade your insulation to meet current thermal standards. We handle this notification to the council for you. Contact us for more information or advice on building regulations or planning permission.

Customer Feedback

"Understanding, Flexible and Hard Working"

"We are really happy with our new roof and the work Dan and his crew carried out. The working conditions were tough on the lads as space was tight and some hefty roadworks were taking place outside too. Nevertheless, Dan’s team were always understanding, flexible and hard working."

We’ve already had some neighbours asking who we used as they like what they have seen and I have had no hesitation in recommending Daniel Scott Roofing for anyone needing a roofer in Bramhall."

"Flawless Experience"

"I had a completely new roof installed by Dan and his team at my mother’s house. From pricing to completion was a flawless experience. Dan’s team were excellent, very polite and courteous to my mother and cleaned up at the end of each day. The team also made sure that my mother knew they were leaving for lunch or at the end of the day so she could make the house secure. They are a very good company to deal with and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. Five star company well done guys and thanks again for a job well done."

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new roof cost in Stockport?

The cost depends on the size of the roof and the material (Slate is more expensive than concrete tile). We provide a full cost break down for full transparency.

How long will my house be without a roof?

It is never completely "without" a roof. We strip and felt the roof in sections. Once the breathable membrane is down (usually day 1 or 2), the house is watertight, even before the tiles go back on.

Do you remove the rubbish?

Yes. A full re-roof generates a lot of waste (old tiles, timber, felt). We organize the skip hire and ensure your driveway and garden are swept clean with magnets to pick up stray nails before we leave. This will be included in any quote as standard.

At Daniel Scott we take any customer concerns regarding mess on their properties very seriously. Contact our office immediately if you have any concerns.

My house is in a conservation area (e.g. Edgeley/Marple). Can you help?

Yes. We specialize in heritage work. We can source reclaimed slate or approved alternatives that satisfy council conservation officers while giving you a modern, watertight structure underneath.

Can you match the stone slates on my property in Bollington or Macclesfield?

Yes. The Bollington and Macclesfield area is famous for its distinct stone roofs. We have access to specialist reclamation yards to source Yorkshire Stone or local grey slate that blends perfectly with your existing roof, ensuring we maintain the historic character of your property.

My home in Wilmslow has clay tiles. Can you source replacements?

Absolutely. Many period properties in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge were built using specific Rosemary or clay plain tiles. We can source both reclaimed originals or high-quality modern clay equivalents that match the colour and texture common in Cheshire East.

What guarantee do I get?

All our full roof replacements come with a minimum 10-year workmanship guarantee. We are members of the Confederation of Roofing which can guarantee our warranty - see here more information
